Who We Are

Who's Behind the Build

We build and repair decks for homeowners in Memphis and the towns around it, working on everything from a simple platform off the back door to a raised deck with stairs and built-in benches. Most people call us because a board has gone soft underfoot, a railing wiggles when a kid leans on it, or the whole structure was never permitted right in the first place. Some of our work is new construction, some is tearing out a deck someone else built wrong five years ago. Either way you're trusting us with something your family stands on, so we treat the framing like it matters more than the finish.

We check the ledger board flashing before anything else, because that's where a deck attached to the house starts rotting from the inside out. Footings go below the frost line and bear on undisturbed soil, not on the loose clay fill that Memphis lots are often graded with. We space boards for movement instead of jamming them tight, so composite and pressure-treated lumber both have room to expand in July without cupping. Railings get set to the spacing an inspector actually checks, not just what looks close enough.

Had them redo the stain on our deck off Poplar after the last guy let it peel in a year. This one's held up through a whole Memphis summer so far, boards aren't gray yet.

Deck Staining & Sealing · Bartlett, TN
One of the stair stringers was rotted clean through and they caught it before it became a bigger job. Had to reschedule once for rain but texted me the new date same afternoon.

Deck Repair · Southaven, TN
We're just outside Memphis in Bartlett and the composite boards look nothing like our old splintery pine deck. Spacing between boards is even all the way down, which the last contractor never bothered with.

Common Questions

Questions we get a lot

Questions people ask before they call.

How much does a new deck cost in Memphis?
A pressure-treated deck typically runs a set price per square foot depending on framing complexity, while composite decking costs more upfront but less in maintenance. Stairs, railings, and multiple levels add cost beyond a simple rectangular platform, so an exact number depends on the layout and materials chosen.
Are you licensed and insured?
A licensed deck builder in Shelby County should carry general liability insurance and, depending on the job's value, a contractor's license. Ask any deck contractor for proof of both before signing a contract, and a legitimate company will hand over certificates without hesitation.
How soon can you start my deck project?
Start dates for deck projects usually depend on the current backlog and the time of year, with spring and early summer being the busiest season for deck builders. Getting a written estimate scheduled early is the best way to lock in a start date before the calendar fills up.
What areas do you cover around Memphis?
Deck builders serving Memphis typically also cover nearby towns such as Bartlett, Germantown, Collierville, Southaven, and Olive Branch, generally within about a 50-mile radius. Confirm the exact service area with the contractor since some jobs further out may carry a small travel charge.
Do you work on decks at rental properties or just single-family homes?
Deck contractors generally work on single-family homes, rental properties, and townhomes, though multi-family or commercial deck work sometimes requires different permit categories. The framing and code requirements are largely the same regardless of who owns the property.
Will you take on a small repair job or only full deck builds?
Most deck contractors handle small repairs like a single rotted board or a loose railing post as well as full rebuilds, since a lot of repair calls come from decks that were otherwise sound. There's usually no minimum job size for basic deck repair work.
How do I get started with a deck project?
Getting started usually means calling or submitting a contact form to schedule a walkthrough of the property, where the contractor measures the space and discusses layout and materials. A written estimate should follow within a few days of that visit.
What actually affects the price of a deck?
The biggest cost factors for a deck are square footage, decking material such as pressure-treated pine versus cedar versus composite, the number of levels, and whether stairs and railings are needed. Site conditions like a sloped yard or difficult footing access can also add to labor time and cost.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?
Most deck contractors require a deposit, often a percentage of the total project cost, to cover materials before construction begins, with the remaining balance due on completion. The exact deposit structure should be spelled out in the written estimate or contract.
What happens if it rains during my deck build?
Deck framing and fastening should not happen on wet lumber, so rain typically pushes the schedule back by a day or more depending on how long the wood takes to dry out. Staining and sealing are especially weather-sensitive since sealant applied to damp wood tends to peel within a year.
